Removal of contaminants of emerging concern from multicomponent systems using carbon dioxide activated biochar from lignocellulosic feedstocks

چکیده

• Adsorption from multicomponent CEC solution by three activated biochars was studied. Biochar porosity and hydrophobicity both influenced the removal efficiency. Predominantly microporous peach stone biochar showed lowest overall capacity. Hydrophilic CECs adsorbed best on ash-rich wheat straw biochars. of hydrophobic highest softwood biochar. six contaminants emerging concern (CECs) – caffeine, chloramphenicol, carbamazepine, bisphenol A, diclofenac, triclosan a studied using obtained lignocellulosic feedstocks: straw, softwood, stones. Structural parameters related to ash content properties were found influence adsorption For biochar, activation resulted in more developed mesoporosity, whereas increased only microporosity. The most hydrophilic studied, caffeine displayed (22.8 11.3 mg g ?1 ) onto which had adsorbents (20 wt%). A triclosan, relatively substances, (31.6 30.2 well-developed mesoporosity low content.

Contaminants of Emerging Concern

Contaminants of emerging concern, or CECs, can be broadly defined as chemicals that have been recently detected in the environment and that may pose public health or ecological risks. CECs encompass a wide variety of chemicals, including pharmaceuticals and household chemicals. Many CECs differ from conventional environmental contaminants such as pesticides, metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (P...

Removal of chromium (VI) from aqueous solution by adsorption using cousinia eryngioides boiss and activated carbon

Adsorption capacity of Cr (VI) onto cousinia eryngioides boiss, activated carbon was investigated in a batch system by considering the effects of various parameters like contact time, initial concentration, pH, temperature, agitation speed, absorbent dose and particle size. Cr (VI) removal is pH dependent and found to be maximum at pH 2.0. The amounts of Cr (VI) adsorbed increased with increase...

Removal of metoprolol from aqueous solutions by the activated carbon prepared from pine cones

Background: Metoprolol (MTP) with its low biodegradability is one of the most dominant micropollutant in the effluent of wastewater treatment plants. The aim of this study was to investigate the removal of metoprolol from aqueous solutions by the activated carbon prepared from pine cones. Methods: The pine cones were activated using thermal activation method. Characteristics of the adsorbent w...
